Project Title: Icelandic Canadian Experiences of the First World War: Enlistment, Service, Trauma and Rehabilitation.

Description:

My research examines the motivations for, and experiences of enlistment for Icelandic Canadian soldiers, airmen, nursing sisters, and physicians during the First World War. My work utilizes personnel files, government records, and battalion nominal rolls to reconstruct the service histories and medical histories of Icelandic Canadian soldiers both during and after the war. Furthermore, my work highlights the contributions of Icelandic Canadian physicians and nursing sisters who served in the Canadian Army Medical Corps and their perspectives on serving during the war.
